Objective
Students will recognize and learn the importance of the different adaptations of native Texas birds, including their colorations, beaks, and feet. For this activity, students will design and create a new species of Texas bird, and write an expository paragraph including a description of the bird’s adaptations and why they are important to that bird’s survival.

- Crayons, colored pencils, markers, etc.
- Craft materials – colored paper, glue, clay, paper mache, scissors, feathers, etc. (optional)
Activity Preparation
- Print a set of the provided cards and place the cards in separate envelopes or containers per category (all coloration cards in a coloration envelope, all beak cards in a beak envelope, all feet cards in a feet envelope).
