  • “Rain-maker” bottle (bottle with holes in lid)*
  • Drinking straws*
  • 16-ounce clear plastic cups*
  • Food coloring (optional)*

Activity Preparation

  • Note: Students may create aquifers individually or in groups.
  • Before starting this project with your class, mix a small amount of food coloring with water in a watering can, or “rain-maker” bottle with holes in the lid. You may need to repeat this several times depending on the class size. Add enough food coloring so that the color can be seen.
